Water Treatment Plant
The dual-F2W systems is installed in Unalaska’s Pyramid Water Treatment Plant which includes two Rentricity NSF-safety certified Cornell pump-as-turbines (PATs) which generate up to 75 and 125 kilowatts respectively. One of Rentricity’s most sophisticated SEMS control panels is used to manage flow and pressure realtime with multiple PATs and hydraulic operating profiles. The systems, designed to handle a wide range of flow and pressures will completely offset the electricity needs of plant, with excess power going to the City’s electric grid. In addition, Unalaska has the ability to utilize its excess water rights to generate an incremental amount of additional power over varying periods of time. This ability is independent of the water processing requirements for the City. In everyday terms, the clean power would generate enough energy for over 1000 homes or 7,500 LED electric bulbs.
Installation and initial testing were completed in late 2023.
